Lost keys to the cluster mailbox at Magnolia Lakes or Sandpiper Bay. Single-mailbox at the curb stopped working. Tenant locked out of the new mailbox. We replace mailbox locks with USPS-compatible cylinders + new keys cut on-site.

Mailbox lock replacement in PSL — cluster boxes (Salsbury, Florence, Auth-Florence, AmericanMailBoxes), single curb-side mailboxes, USPS-approved CBU (cluster box unit) cylinders.
Cost: $60-95 per cylinder including 2 new keys. Most jobs finished in 15-30 minutes on-site.
Common scenarios: lost keys after a turnover, broken cylinder from forcing a key, post-purchase rekey when new homeowner can't find original keys.
Cluster Box Units (CBUs). The grouped mailbox structures with individual locked compartments — common in the newer PSL subdivisions (Magnolia Lakes, Sandpiper Bay, Veranda Bay, Telaro). The two big manufacturers are Salsbury Industries and Florence (now Auth-Florence). Each compartment has a proprietary cylinder that the post office won't service (they have their own master key but won't change tenant locks).
When you need a cluster-box compartment rekeyed: that's our work. We swap in a USPS-approved CBU replacement cylinder, cut 2-3 new keys, and you're back in business in 15-20 minutes.
Curb-side single mailboxes. The older residential rural-style mailboxes mounted on a post at the curb. Some have factory locks, many don't. For unlocked mailboxes that you want to secure, we install retrofit lock kits (Master, Mail Boss brands) — typically $80-160 install + hardware.
Locking wall-mounted mailboxes. Residential streetside drop boxes that mount to the wall, with a separate retrieval lock. Salsbury, Architectural, Florence make these. Lock replacement same as cluster: $60-95.
The post office has very specific requirements for cluster box locks:
USPS-approved cluster box cylinders are a specific product — not just any pin-tumbler cylinder will work. We carry the Salsbury / Florence-compatible cylinders that USPS will accept on the van. Installing a non-USPS-approved cylinder may result in the carrier refusing to deliver until you correct it.

No. USPS maintains the cluster box structure and the master keys (for delivery access), but they don't service individual tenant compartment cylinders. That's the homeowner's / property manager's / tenant's responsibility.
For curb-side single mailboxes, yes — retrofit kits are widely available. For cluster box compartments (the most common PSL scenario), no — you need a USPS-approved cylinder that accepts the USPS master key, and these aren't typically stocked at big-box stores. Plus the installation requires removing the existing cam and shimming the replacement to the manufacturer's spec.
We can pick the lock or remove the cylinder from the back — depends on the manufacturer. Most Salsbury and Florence cylinders are extractable from inside the box once we get the compartment open. Pick approach is preferred; cylinder removal is a fallback. Either way, we replace the cylinder afterward and cut new keys.
The cylinders we install are. USPS doesn't certify specific brands but they require the cylinder to accept the USPS master key (so the carrier can deliver mail). Our cluster-box replacement cylinders all meet this requirement.
Yes — property managers with newly turned-over units regularly need cluster box compartments rekeyed. Bulk pricing applies for 5+ compartments same visit: $45-70 per compartment.
Cluster mailbox calls come from the newer subdivisions — Magnolia Lakes, Sandpiper Bay, Veranda Bay, Telaro, PGA Verano. Older single-curb-side jobs from Bayshore, Sandpiper, and parts of the older PSL housing stock.
